Building acoustics: keep revisions and handover gaps visible

A practical revision log, ownership register and handover check for building-acoustics reports and project files.

Drawings, product information and reports in an acoustic handover should describe the same building. A changed wall build-up or services layout raises a simple question: does the earlier assessment still represent the installation? The tracking structure below is my recommendation for bringing that question to the responsible specialist promptly.

A file named “final” is not enough

Use a document code, revision, date and author instead of relying on names such as “latest” or “final”. “ARC-FLOOR02-R03” is merely a suggested code. The delivery register must also explain which drawing it identifies.

Add the revisions of drawings used by the report to a cover-sheet register. Retain superseded versions in an archive so the specialist can identify the assessed design.

Maintain a change record

I recommend fields for the previous condition, proposed condition, affected room or element, change requester and specialist review. Replacing a product does not automatically establish equivalent acoustic performance. Keep the item open until the new product evidence and installation detail have been reviewed.

The register does not itself approve a technical change. The responsible specialist assesses the consequences for calculations, details, measurements or the report. The coordinator connects that decision to the relevant files and keeps unresolved items visible.

Separate deliverables explicitly

The implementation guide addresses acoustic reports, projects and assessment records under distinct headings. See the Ministry and İZODER guide. Separate these items in both the quotation and handover record so a preparation file cannot be mistaken for a formal report or measurement result.

Review the gaps before release

Check revision consistency, inaccessible links, missing product information, unreviewed changes and required signature fields. For each unresolved matter record its effect, owner and intended closing date. “Files delivered” and “technically accepted” are different records.

This is a project-management recommendation, not a finding that a particular building meets acoustic requirements. The specialist must determine the applicable provisions and formal deliverables from current requirements and actual project conditions.
