Before an architectural acoustic report: define the project scope

Prepare an acoustic report or project brief with building use, floor information, architectural revisions and accountable specialists.

Berkan Duru12 October 2026

“We need an acoustic report” is a useful starting point, but it does not define a deliverable. A client may need an architectural acoustic report, a separate acoustic design project, a site assessment or another document. Recording the distinction before quotation makes the specialist brief clearer.

Distinguish a report from a separate project

The 2018 implementation guide prepared through Ministry and İZODER cooperation explains the report and separate-project provisions in Article 5 of Türkiye’s building-noise regulation. It identifies the project author or acoustic specialist for the report and an acoustic specialist for a separate project. Building characteristics and the target performance class matter. See the guide’s scope and reporting sections.

Prepare a clear first file

My suggested brief records the address, building uses, total construction area, floor information, project stage and intended deliverable. Record each use in a mixed-use building separately. Refer uncertainties about floor counting to the specialist; an estate listing is insufficient evidence.

Check that plans, sections and elevations share the same revision. Organise wall and floor build-ups, door and window product information, building-services layouts and existing reports into separate groups. Make missing information visible. A description such as “standard wall” cannot replace an identified construction detail.

Close three questions with the specialist

Which current provisions apply to this building? Is the deliverable a report, design project or measurement, and which stage does it cover? Who prepares, checks and, where required, signs it? I recommend retaining the answers with the quotation.

Preparation does not replace technical assessment

Document collection and revision tracking help the client, but do not replace acoustic calculations, design, measurements or required approvals. Review Ministry announcements for specialist information. This is a preparation approach informed by the 2018 guide, not a legal opinion claiming verification of every amendment to the current consolidated text. Confirm the actual project requirements with the responsible specialist and relevant authority. The English text explains a Turkish project workflow; it does not assert applicability in another country.
